The Duttons faced new challenges in the early 20th century, including westward expansion, prohibition, and the Great Depression. The Great Depression began in Montana in 1929, about 10 years before the rest of the nation. While the rest of the country was prospering, Montana was struggling. Amid drought and low demand for agricultural products, the "Great War" (also known as World War I, from 1914 to 1918), many farmers suffered greatly. As a result, Montana farmers could not repay their wartime loans, leading to widespread bankruptcies throughout the state. Between 1921 and 1925, half of Montana farmers lost their land. By 1925, 70,000 of Montana’s 82,000 homes had been evacuated. In addition, 200 banks in Montana failed. Not only did the drought damage crops, but it also devastated livestock and caused disease. Featured in: Indiana Jones & the Tomb Raider (2023). Dame Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Sounds like a winning recipe. And it is. The Duttons are once again struggling to maintain their Montana ranch lifestyle. The patriarch, (Harrison Ford), Jacob Dutton, is fighting a similar battle to John Dutton (Costner) in Yellowstone. Very entertaining. There are two other very interesting arcs in the story. One is Spencer Dutton. A disillusioned WWI veteran. Now a hunter in Africa. Spencer meets an English girl he likes. Suddenly, the two of them know they have to travel from Mogadishu, Somalia, to Montana. It should be easy… The second arc is about a school where Native American girls are being abused by Catholic priests and nuns. That part was very difficult to watch. There was some revenge in it and it was quite watchable… Usually I judge TV shows after 1 season. Not this time. I didn’t like the last episode. Explaining why he’s spoiling me. But I’ll watch the second season. I have to…
